TacticsOdd word in a business context right? More applicable to the military isn’t it? We hear it all the time – especially in conjunction with strategy. Art believes they should be considered inseparable. Strategy is the analyzing and planning. Tactics are what we use to get the job done. Certainly in a long range plan strategy – while at the heart of the plan – will get mentioned. But the word tactics is never used. Maybe it’s because it conjures up too many things associated with the military, maybe it takes our minds to how to win battles or the war. Well if your business, your company is in a crisis, aren’t you in a war? A war for survival? And isn’t everything you do a battle? How do you get the receivables in as fast as you can? How do you deal with the suppliers who are calling, wanting to get paid? How do you find what you need when the inventory gal just quit or the data entry people are slacking off? Every decision you make helps or hinders. And you know you aren’t at your best, right? You aren't thinking as clearly as you can because this is unfamiliar territory. During these times you need someone who will get the jobs done, all the jobs. Someone who won’t be taking up your time with small questions and decisions. Art will give you the time to think or maybe just stop thinking. He will give you the opportunity to get back to work. Problems don’t solve themselves; they need to be dealt with …. now! |
